A Visit to the Ipswich Female Seminary and Dinner with the Curator
Sun Nov 7, 2010
3:30pm
walking tour begins at 48 North Main Street, Ipswich, Mass -or-
4:00pm at Ipswich Museum54 South Main Street, Ipswich, Mass(978)356-2811

We are traveling to Ipswich Museum in Ipswich, Mass. (30 miles north of Boston) to see their Ipswich Female Seminary exhibit. Mary Lyon taught there before moving to western Massachusetts to found Mount Holyoke Female Seminary (which later became Mount Holyoke College) in 1837. The curator of the museum, Katherine Chaison, will speak to our group at 4pm about their collection of IFS memorabilia. For those who would like to see the original site of the Seminary, we will meet at 3:30pm at our host Dana's home less than a half mile from the Museum, where we will walk to the site and then on to the Museum by 4pm. If you have mobility issues or if the weather is not cooperating, feel free to meet us at 4pm at the Museum instead. A tour of the Heard House will follow Katherine's talk.

After the talk and tour, we will be returning to Dana's 1754 home for dinner with the curator. Please contact Dana if you have any concerns about food allergies, or if you want to RSVP for dinner: dana.beauvais@hotmail.com

We invite all of our Ivy League, Seven Sisters, MIT, NYU, Stanford, Tufts & Amherst LGBT friends. Alumni, faculty, staff, and students are welcome.

Thanks to our hosts, Dana Beauvais of Mount Holyoke Lyon's Pride and Susi Kandel of Dartmouth GALA.
